“Meditation is a way for nourishing and blossoming the divinity within you.”
― Amit Ray
Daily meditation has always been a great tool for peace of mind and gaining clarity. With research backing the various benefits such as Matthew Thorpe, MD, PhD shared with Healthline on July 5, 2017 which I listed below and my own personal experience yielding positive results; there is no question the importance of having meditation as part of your daily routine when pursuing a balanced healthy lifestyle.
stress reduction
anxiety control
emotional health
enhanced self- awareness
lengthened attention span
reduction of age-related memory loss
increasing positive exchanges towards others and yourself
helps fights addiction
sleep improvement
helps to control the brain
decreased blood pressure
So the real challenge personally and maybe a few of you can relate, is implementing what I know to be good for my overall health as a daily habit. The beauty of meditation is that it can be done anywhere for any length of time. Typically I find the best results with a good 15 minute session listening to rain forest music or ocean waves crashing on the beach. My biggest hurdle in my jammed pack day is fitting meditation in my schedule (which I am sure many of you can also relate). Knocking it out first thing in the morning is a great way to start my day but as I typically wake up anytime between 4:30 am – 5:30 am for work, meditation sessions in the morning can be a bad idea as I become so relaxed I want to go back to bed!
It has been said that it takes 21 days to make a new habit stick. Not sure about you, but I enjoy options and combining tasks together to make the most of my time. Also having a designated area helps with intention setting but mediation can be done anywhere anytime laying down or sitting up. So I will share below a few different ways I plan on making meditation apart of my daily routine and hopefully will inspire you to do the same!
Option 1) Roll out of bed into a 20-30 minute glorious yoga session ending with 10 minutes of meditation before getting ready for the day. Having dim lights on in my yoga area defiantly helps the transition from sleep to being ready to start the day.
Option 2) Find a quite spot at the park during my lunch break, listen to some relaxing meditation music and drift off into a blissful midday meditation session.
Option 3) Two for one utilizing the 10 minutes in a tanning bed (which have been known to cause cancer so not to be used frequently) to drift off into a peaceful and warm meditation session.
Option 4) Post Yoga mediation/savasana.
Option 5) End of day meditation before bed. This is by far one of my favorite ways as I can take some extra time setting the mood by lighting candles and form an intention before laying down into a mediation session with sounds of the rain forest filling my room.
So there you have it, 5 ways to implement meditation daily. Hopefully you like me will do this 21 consecutive days and form a habit. Please share any other ways you enjoy meditation or feedback on your own experiences. Looking forward to reading about your meditation sessions!
